Life most life insurance policies most Whole of life insurance plans will
allow the inclusion of Critical illness cover.
That said it will affect the cost of cover as the likelihood of a critical
illness claim significantly increases when the cover is whole of life.
So what is critical illness insurance?
Critical illness insurance is a benefit that can be either free standing or
in the case of whole of life insurance a "bolt on benefit".
It is a benefit designed to pay out a sum assured on diagnosis of a critical
illness.
Some examples of such critical illnesses are :-
Cancer ,Deafness, Cardio Myopathy, Heart attack, Heart Valve
Replacement, Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease, Coronary Artery Bypass, Loss of
Limb, Hodgkins Disease, Kidney Failure, Loss of speech, Liver Failure, Major
Organ Transplant, Motor Neurone Disease, Loss of independent Existence,
Multiple Sclerosis, Paralysis/Paraplegia, Open Heart Surgery, Stroke,
Parkinsons Disease, Pre-Senile Dementia, Aorta Graft Surgery, Terminal
Illness, Severe Lung Disease, Benign Brain Tumour, Third Degree Burns,
Permanent Total Disability, Blindness, Aplastic, Anaemia, Bacterial
Meningitis, Coma.
This list above though very extensive is not necessarily an exhaustive list
equally it is by no means an indication as to the level of cover or
conditions you will get within any particular plan. For a guide to the
critical illness conditions covered within any particular plan you should
always refer to the specific plans key features documentation.
As well as being available on whole of life plans critical illness insurance
can also be used as a mortgage protection, family protection or even key man
protection, for employers that would need a cash injection in the event a
key individual suffered a heart attack stroke or cancer for example.
The main thing to bear in mind about critical illness cover is it will not
pay out on out on diagnosis of critical illnesses it doesn't matter what the
outcome is, for example you could have a heart attack, get better and go on
to lead a very productive life. The benefit on most of these plans is still
payable in full, allowing you the life assured to do what you want to do
after what is such a traumatic experience, making it a most valuable cover
to the life assured than any other.
